(EQP) SUN-GCU1935 Well, if you have followed us through
the years you know we don't exaggerate, but when the factory
calls this beauty 1kw continuous, I've got to scratch my head. The roller
inductor should handle 30 amps, the vacuum 75 amps. So, with
a little rewiring.....
Designed to
couple the GSB-900 transceiver and GSL-1900A Linear Amplifier
into a 35' whip and 50' to 150' long wires or works as a line
flattener into unbalanced (coaxial fed) antennas from 1.6 - 30
MHz!
The general design is an "L" network with series input vacuum cap and shunt inductor at the
output for short antennas like the whip. For long wires, a fixed doorknob is connected in series with
the antenna to form a "T" network. Weighs 85 lbs.

(EQP) SR-680 This is the jewel from our
SRS acquisition. It is factory rated at 150 watts but has the
capability of being modified to handle 2kw plus.
The main tuning
components are a motor driven Jennings CVCJ-1000 5kv vacuum
variable capacitor and a motor driven 24 µH edge wound 20 amp
variable inductor (See details on this inductor under the Variable
Inductor section of this site).
You
be the judge! It is designed to operate with Scientific Radio's
SR-380 transceiver on the RS-422 bus but should be able to
be modified (we hope) to operate with a small home-made control
box. We can provide full "Theory Of Operation" specifications
prior to purchase for your perusal. 28 vdc @ 7 amps required
but motors will run on 8-12 vdc. Designed to use 8' to 75'
radiator.
Our units were completed and tested at
the factory. Gear motors that operate the vacuum cap were
robbed for spare parts so we have priced them accordingly.
We can provide a gear motor we have modified to fit for $95
extra or you can solve the issue. 13" x 16" x 9-1/2"
rain tight enclosure has "N" connector input and a beehive insulator
on the antenna side.
The hinged lid contains most of the control
circuitry. 37 pounds. Copy of a full factory manual included

(EQP) SR-VARIOM Low Frequency Variometer. A unique design of an old standby, a motorized variometer. This unit allows variable coupling between 2 series inductors to achieve a limited inductance change in an antenna matching or tuning circuit.
The input to the unit is via an "N" female connector mounted on the bottom of the enclosure. A short length of coax connects to the circuit. The circuit consists of an input transformer with 11 taps. This connects to the 2 series coils in the unit and on the output there is a power sensor. On the top of the cabinet there is a giant 6" in diameter 4" high glass bowl feedthru insulator with a 4" corona disc. Connection is to a 3/8" threaded stud. There is a spark gap.
The inductors are #13 or #14 served Litz wire wound on a giant 6-1/4" form. The smaller 220 µH inductor consists of 44 turns tapped every 4 turns allowing switch selection of 11 different inductances in 10 µH steps. The large inductor is 150 turns of the same wire on the same form with taps at 5 turns, 5 turns, 10 turns then each 15 turns for remainder of the coil. This coil is 2200µH and the taps allow selection in approximately 220 µH steps. These taps are brought out to threaded studs on a fiberglass panel which allow the output lead to bypass turns on the top of the coil. Although both coils are in series they are separated by 1-1/8" on the form.
Inside the form there is an aluminum cylinder 5" in diameter, 1/4" thick and 1" long. This cylinder is mounted on a 1/4" shaft which is coupled to the knob on the internal panel and a 12 vdc motor. There is no control circuit for the motor; it runs whenever power is supplied at 5-1/2 rpm. Rotation of this cylinder changes the coupling between to 2 coils. The position of the cylinder may be manually adjusted by the knob on the internal panel.
On the fiberglass panel there are also ten 30k ohm, 10 watt wirewound resistors connected in series. These are apparently provided a swamping resistors to reduce the Q of the circuit. A combination of these resistors may be selected by interconnecting the desired number of them across the large coil via jumpering to threaded studs.
The external control connector on the bottom of the enclosure provides motor power, output power signal and external input of forward and reflected power supplied to banana jacks on the internal panel. The motor switch on the internal panel switches off external power to the motor. There is also an interlock switch activated by the hinged lid.
The unit is contained in a 20" x 24" x 13-1/2" aluminum weatherproof enclosure with a hinged lid. The lid may be secured by a padlock in addition to the 7 stainless steel clips.
(EQP) SR-605 A low frequency variometer very similar to the above unit. Same cabinet, input / output connectors and coils with motorized cylinder.
Does not include 30k ohm swamping resistors. Coil tap assembly uses banana plugs rather than screw terminals and jumpers. Also includes switch selected 20 watt / 300 watt forward and reflected power meter. All other characteristics of this unit are the same as the (EQP) SR-VARIOM above.

Scientific Radio Systems SR-645
1.6 - 30.0 MHz Ten Band Tuner
(EQP) SR-645 This is the big brother of the SR-640 tuner listed below. They are functionally similar although this unit has more on-board status indicators and controls.
Factory rated at 1000 watts continuous, this unit can probably handle much more under minor mis-match conditions. This is the largest automated fixed channel antenna matching unit SRS produced.
This programmable, broad-banded full range HF tuner is a series inductance, shunt capacitance T network. It begins with a 200 watt / 1000 watt forward and reflected power meter followed by a motor-driven Johnson 229-203 0.1 to 28 µH series roller inductor. Next in line is a selectable bank of shunt capacitor values from 18 to 2090 pF in 15 pF steps. This is followed by a pair of motor-driven 0.1 to 28 µH roller inductors. To aid in low frequency operation there is a giant 0.1 to 84 µH motor-driven rotary inductor which may be set to include a pre-set inductance, the entire inductor or removed from the signal path. Last in line is an RF voltage sensor which controls onboard 6 kv and 7.5 kv warning lights. A 7.5 kv voltage at the output is considered a fault condition since as there is a 7.5 kV spark gap at the output connector. This voltage level is also considered the maximum allowable voltage in the unit before internal arcing can occur.
The recommended 200 watt tune up signal can be reduced by using a lower range relected power meter on the input. Initial matching settings are easily accomplished by following the step by step instructions printed on the inside of the cover. The manual for the unit includes preliminary settings for 25 foot, 32 foot, 35 foot and 80 foot vertical antennas as well as 75 foot and 150 foot longwire antennas. The final settings can be recorded on the inside cover for future reference.
This unit is designed to operate with any number of the Scientific Radio Systems transceiver/amplifier combinations. It can readily be adapted to other units by use of a simple 1 of 10 grounding switch for band selection. Also available is a key-inhibit signal which shuts down the transmitter when capacitors are being selected during initial setup and when the unit is changing bands/channels. Also available is a 'status' line which is used to key the transmitter when in the tune mode. A 19 conductor cable is required to fully utilize all external lines/signals available as well as power to the unit. Eleven conductors plus AC power is all that is required if optional signals are not untilized. The unit requires 115 / 230 vac power.
All this is contained in a 20" x 24" x 9-1/2" aluminum enclosure with hinged, weather-proof lid. Four mounting tabs on the back of the enclosure facilitate mounting. Provision for a padlock is included. Power and control signals are applied via 19 pin MS3102 connector (mating cable-end connector provided). AC power may be supplied via separate cable through its own entrance. RF in is via an N female connector and the output is on a 2-1/2" ceramic feed-thru on the top. Setup / troubleshooting / operating manual included with full schematics and parts lists. Weight 50 lbs.
(EQP) SR-640 Another of our SRS acquisitions.
Factory rated at 100 watts continuous, 200 watts peak. This
was the latest automated design fixed channel tuner SRS produced.
Forget the minimum RF power requirements and minimum antenna length requirement of the automatic antenna tuners. Also, most of them have a maximum SWR mismatch, over which they do not operate. This tuner lets you set and control the match with no sensitive microprocessor that could fail and put you off the air.
This programmable, broad-banded full range HF tuner incorporates a motor driven roller inductor and switched fixed capacitors for 10 preset frequencies. It is desgined to operate with the SR 206/210 series transceivers and the solid state SR-240 transceiver. External switching control is available by grounding 1 of 10 selected channel lines. Also includes an optional 'key-inhibit' signal (line goes high) to disable the transmitter during switching.
Selection of a preset causes a motor-driven rotary switch to select a combination of fixed capacitors determined during initial setup of the unit to provide a match for the antenna. The switch also selects a trimpot that was set during setup to position the rotary inductor for best match. Once the unit stops switching the key inhibit line resets, enabling the transmitter.
Input to the tuner passes through a 4:1 balun, transforming 50 ohms to 12.5 ohms to assist matching very short antennas. Capacitor selection is via an ingenious mechanical switching arrangement allowing series values from 4 pF to 1020 pF in 4 pF steps, a fixed shunt value of 500 pF and an optional series 200 pF after the roller inductor. The 0 - 18 µH roller inductor is shunted across the output.
Setup is performed by switching the internal logic to 'Tune Mode' and manually selecting capacitor values and roller inductor position for best match. Once this is achieved, the rotary switch is 'programmed' to select the capacitors and an onboard trimpot is adjusted to position the rotary inductor for best match. An onboard SWR bridge / power meter is used for the tune-up process. A 'typical tuning data' chart is provided as a starting point to preset capacitor and inductory values for 10 different vertical and horizontal antenna lengths.
A maximum 15 conductor cable is required for control. This could be reduced to 9 conductors by building a BCD to Decimal decoder in the unit. Compare with the 'automatic' unit that is a transformer and resistor connected between your rig and the antenna. Our unit uses real individual matching parts worth over $100 more than our asking price.
We can provide full "Theory Of Operation" specifications prior to purchase for your perusal. 18 vdc control voltage required. Designed to use 8' to 75' radiator. Our units were completed and tested at the factory. 6" high x 12" wide x 14" long rain tight enclosure has "UHF" connector input and a beehive insulator on the antenna side. The lid has O-ring weather seal. 18 pounds.
